9.6.7.  Compatibility with determiners

Numerals and degree-quantifiers can co-occur with the definite article.
a hét/sok virág
the seven/many flower

Ordinal numerals normally require a definite determiner to be present. (The article can only be missing in list-style, or in so called telegraphic registers.)

Universal quantifiers and quantifiers with an -ik suffix cannot co-occur with the definite article if they are string-adjacent.
(*a) minden/bármelyik virág
the every/any flower

Quantifiers with an -ik suffix cannot co-occur with the definite article if they are string-adjacent, but there are two exceptions to the rule: egyik 'one' and másik 'other one' can co-occur wuth a definite article.
(Az) egy-ik lányomat ismered.

Universal quantifiers and quantifiers with an -ik suffix obligatorily co-occur with the definite article if they are separated by another modifier, such as a participial modifier.
