Nominal Structures of Uralic Languages

Superlatives are formed productively with the circumfix leg-(adjective)-Vbb. Note, that certain types of attrubutive adjectives (e.g. adjectives expressing absolute properties, such as 'blind') do not have a superlative form.

A	kutyá-m	a	leg-okos-abb/*leg-vak-abb	az	utcá-ban.
the	dog-1SG	the	SUPER-clever-COMP/SUPER-blind-COMP	the	street-INE

’My dog is the smartest in the street.’

Many relational and locational adjectives, just as oridinal and partitive modifiers do not have superlative forms.

*leg-utca-i-bb	verekedés,	*leg-öt-öd-ik-ebb	találkozó
SUPER-street-ATTR-COMP	fighting	SUPER-five-ORD-PTV-COMP	meeting

’most street-related fight, fifthest meeting’
