5.2.5. The information structure of the clause
The information structure effects word order, but does not effect the choice between copulas. In the example the possessor (Ivan) is contrastively topicalized and the possessee (this book) is focused. Copulas are used (or are absent if necessary) as in non-neutral sentences.
Iván-é | ez | a | könyv | (*van)/volt/lesz. |
Ivan-é | this | the | book | be.3SG/be.PST.3SG/be.FUT.3SG |
’As for Ivan, THIS book is / was / will be Ivan's.’
