5.2.4. The semantic properties of the possessive relationship
The semantic properties of the possessive relationship (e.g. alienability) do not seem to influence the choice between copulas. In the examples past tense is odd with inalienable possessive relation, but not for grammatical reasons. (It is odd because separating John's hand from John supposes dramatic happenings.)
Ez | a | kéz/ház | János-é | volt. |
this | the | hand/house | John-é | be.PST.3SG |
’This hand/house was John's.’
