5.2.3. The semantic properties of the subject/possessee
The semantic properties of the subject do not seem to influence the choice between copulas. In the example, human, animate, and inanimate subjects are illustrated with the same past tense copula.
A | gyerek | / | a | fa | / | az | épület | János-é | volt. |
the | child | / | the | tree | / | the | building | John-é | be.PST.3SG |
’The child / the tree / the building was John's.’
