3.8.2.  Relation to the locative clause

The word order S V Loc (illustrated in 3.7.2) is attested in both existential and locative cluses. One of the constructions must have a non-specific subject and a presentational meaning (thetic sentence).
(Egy) macska van a tető-n.
a cat is the roof-SUP
’There is a cat on th eroof.’

True locatives have a specific (topical) subject and are categorical sentences.
Egy macska a tető-n van.
a cat the roof-SUP is
’A (certain) cat is on the roof.’
