4.7.1.  Possessor Possessee Verb(-like element) order

Possessors are topics in unmarked cases, so they are clause-initials. When the possessee is in preverbal position, it has to contain some additional new information beyond 'having a dog', otherwise it is interpreted as focus.
Mari-nak két mentett kutyá-ja van.
Mary-DAT two saved dog-POSS be.3SG
’Mary has two rescue dogs.’
