11.3.1. Distinctive formal properties of the articles
The longer allomorph of the definite article is identical to the distal inflecting demonstrative //az// 'that'. However, their distribution differ: inflecting demonstratives must be followed by the definite article, which means that a single //az// can only be interpreted as a definite article, while two instance of //az// following each other are the combination of the distal demonstrative plus the long form of the article.
